26 APR 2012 - RHS: The artisan's garden.

This day looks at ways in which you can use a school garden to support teaching and learning within the arts. You will explore different ways in which a variety of artforms such as visual arts, drama and music, can be linked to growing and used to enhance your garden environment. This course is available to teachers, support staff, school governors and others who are involved in teaching and inspiring children about plants and gardening.

This will be a fun and interactive day looking at how to use your school grounds and gardens to deliver the curriculum outdoors. The day will be packed full of ideas for using outdoor spaces, from tarmac to woodlands, to deliver quick activities to supplement current teaching. Creative curriculums around the outdoors will also be discussed at length with further examples of activities to be explored, including how to use gardening.

There has recently been growing concern over the food which today's children are eating. This day is aimed at enabling you to set up and manage a school garden with a focus on growing your own fruit and vegetables. This course would suit schools who are starting out creating at a garden as well as those who wish to extend the ways in which a garden area is used.

This event will give you an insight into careers in the land-based, food and environmental sector. There will be a Farm Tour with guidance on how to use tours within the curriculum and highlighting careers around the Farm along with practical activities that can be used in the classroom.

10 JULY 2012 - Reading the World... to Read Ourselves (10.00-16.00) SHEFFIELD

A practical day course showcasing the power of picture books for opening up the world, and learning about others and ourselves. Delivered by two of our most experienced leaders in literacy, the course shares books and tools that have been carefully selected to help young learners (key stages 2-3) explore complex and sometimes controversial issues. Participants will be given a sneak peak (and introductory offer) of a forthcoming publication as well as taster activities and tools to take away.

OCTOBER 2012 - Connecting Leaders: whole school - vision - sustainability - futures

A residential course for school leaders with an interest in, or passion for, sustainability and/or global learning. The course will provide the time and space to think about school leadership at a time of rapid educational change. Developed by the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire Environmental Studies Service, Derbyshire Eco Schools Network and Lifeworlds Learning, the course builds on a WWF pilot project, 'Future Leaders'. The course includes school-based support and two residential sessions in the Peak Park and will run until March 2013.
