MELA Opportunity: Young Learners Summit 2012
DATE: planning for Autumn (Oct-Nov) 2012
Many MELA members have said they would like to see an event for younger learners organised that schools could get directly involved in and bring their pupils too.
We are now planning an event for the autumn term 2012 that will bring young learners KS2 - 5 together at a regional level. We plan for the event to make the most of several topical and current issues:
2012 is the International Year of Cooperation - what does this mean to young people?
2012 is the 20th anniversary of the Earth Summit in Rio - what has happened in the last 20 years and what needs to happen next?
2012 is the London Olympic year - how has this changed the UK?
2012 may prove a big year for Europe - what do young people think of this?
2012 is the Diamond Jubilee year. What does the monarchy mean to today's young people?
There is no fixed theme or focus for this event yet, just the idea to have something happen. We are looking to put together a working group of those who might be interested in helping to organise something for the autumn. Contact us to register your interest.
